Mike Garsin
Director, Products and Technology

Mike has over eight years of international experience architecting and managing the implementation of technological solutions for companies such as Lucent Technology, Island Media Group, and the University of Rochester. He is also a serial entrepreneur, having founded his first company while in high school.

As a founding partner of Island Media Group (NL), he helped secure the capital for IMG’s first acquisition, Overseas Jobs Express (UK) (previously the world’s largest international job publication).  As acting CIO, he led the effort to establish a new web identity for the company InternationalJobHunter.com, while trying to preserve some of the historic appeal of the bricks and mortar brand. IJH.com served as the one-stop shop for any activity related to international job search, including candidate/recruiter matching, country specific relocation information, and the direct sales of Overseas Jobs Express, books, and other related material. This effort also included automating their distribution/supply chain processes, implementing a custom call center sales infrastructure, and managing all of their technological architecture.

During Mike's tenure at the University of Rochester, he managed several strategic infrastructure projects that were aligned with the University's Mission. As a member of the business intelligence group, he was tasked with leading a cross functional team in the reengineering of the BI/Data Warehouse architecture for scalability and business continuity. The final result features a load balanced, multi tiered, multi data center solution that is in its final phase of completion. It will be used to support Finance, Fundraising, Student Systems, and Payroll. Prior to accepting a position with the BI group, as a departmental Information Technology Manager, Mike led an initiative to create the most powerful computing research laboratory at the University, The Star (Theory Statistics and Research) Lab. It features the University's largest High Performance Cluster computing facility based on LAMP technologies. The program has helped garner wide support for the fundraising and planned future implementation of a shared interdisciplinary Super Computing Cluster. Before Mike joined University Information Technology, his company (Syncrocom) served as a solutions provider for several of the University's departmental web projects.

Mike is a graduate of the University of Rochester with a BA in economics and a management certificate specializing in finance and accounting.

While he is not busy brainstorming over his next entrepreneurial opportunity, you will find him golfing, snowboarding, windsurfing, and scuba diving.
